I have never owned my own carpet cleaner, to be honest. When we’ve felt the need to shampoo carpets in the past we’ve always rented the machine from our local grocery store (what a beast!) but this Bissell deep cleaner is one fine machine!

Upon opening the box I was a little overwhelmed (it’s a large box and a complicated looking device), but I was quickly put to ease by the actual simplicity of operating this cleaner. Assembling was simple: take a screw driver and screw on the handle. Took me just a couple minutes (and I am NOT a “handy” type, but the husband wasn’t home and I was too anxious to wait). There were two instruction booklets, one was a quick start type with pictures and just a couple pages, the other was a full several page manual. I appreciated both. In reality, it was easy to get this cleaner up and running. Once you get to know it and learn the basics, it’s a snap.

In the box was a little bottle of Bissell’s cleaner, which I appreciated since I didn’t have any on hand but I wanted to try this sucker out right away. Filling the tank is pretty easy, as well as emptying the dirty water. When I first started running the machine I was concerned that the water wouldn’t last long, and this machine would guzzle the water & cleaner. That was not the case! It seemed to push a lot of water out into the carpet, but the tank still lasted quite a while – so it is well designed in that area as well.

First I tried out the spot cleaner. Can I just say I adore this cleaner’s 2 in 1 capabilities! LOVE that I can spot clean an area rug, the upholstery, and the car with ease! And YES, I’ve done all three such things already – all went off without a hitch. I’m especially impressed with how clean it got my grandparents old Ethan Allen upholstered chairs from the 1960s. It took intimidating spots out of my area rug without any hesitation, and the ability to shampoo my car out without a handful of quarters at some overpriced car wash is NICE.

I was also very pleased with the upright-style cleaning job it did. At first I was concerned it got my carpet overly wet, but when it dried fairly quickly (within an hour or two, with a ceiling fan on) I was happy. With the hand-held nozzle on the spot cleaning portion the top is clear plastic, so you can literally SEE all the dirt coming up out of your carpet. You fill the tank up with clean water, plus a couple ounces of the Bissell carpet cleaning solution, but when you’re done cleaning you can SEE the filthy water. I’ll be honest, I’m a little shocked at how dirty our carpets were, but also makes me feel SO good about seeing all that dirt come right out. This machine has some powerful suction, too.

Overall, while I think this carpet cleaner looked large and intimidating to start, it’s practically my new best friend. I’m serious – I have a toddler and a baby who just learned to crawl. I’m loving being able to go through my house and scrub that dirt out from our carpets. Unlike the grocery store rentable cleaners, I was surprised to find that the Bissell doesn’t seem to cause that awful “just cleaned the carpets” smell, either. I can smell a little bit of that scent, but it’s just seeming more fresh than it ever has in the past with those other machines.

This is absolutely a product I would recommend to someone looking for a versatile carpet cleaner. I feel like you just get the best of both worlds with this 2 in 1 style. The spot cleaning portion is brilliant, but the upright style also gets the job done. You can’t go wrong!

i have come back to say i returned the vacuum and changed my rating from 5 stars to three. here is my first 5 star review-
“well, first i must say, this has alot of power for a stick vac. it literally has suction to the floor unlike most stick vacs. considering its strength, it is still very light and takes up very little space. the cup is very easy to empty. its has a nice handle area making it a snap to move around. the cord is average for most stick vacs. the base is def something you need to get used to when up against the wall, but so far its been good. i do wonder how it would do if i were to spill something by the baseboard though. the vacuum manuevers very well, but at times, its almost too much. it literally can move all different directions, which sometimes can get move more than you wanted. but i am being picky, the power on this stick vacuum makes up for any little criticisms one may have.”

since using the vacuum, i still stand by my above, but after using it a few times, i noticed these really fine, thin scratches in the floor. you couldnt see them in certain lights and im sure no one visiting would notice but they were there. i finally realized that when i vacuumed the hardwood, especially when going against the grain, the bristles actually left these thin surface scratches. it almost seems like the new bristles are very hard, combined with such strong suction, leave the marks.

i must though admit, we have shiny floors so the scratches are only in the coating over the floors. i imagine if you had more matte type floors, this wouldnt be an issue. i dont believe its scratching the wood at all, just the sealer on top. i would have only taken away one star since it still is such a great stick vac, but the fact that its name even contains “hard floor”, i didnt expect scatching no matter what, so i took 2 stars off.

HEPA filters are wonderful things for people who have allergies. While there are many bagged vacuum cleaners that claim they can reduce allergens, they do not compare to the ability of a HEPA filter in a bagless vacuum. Many people do not know that they can save money by cleaning their HEPA filters at least two or three times before they have to be replaced.

This little sucker is unbelievable. The power is fantastic, the torque from the motor actually makes the vacuum jump in your hand when you flip the on switch.

I have a couch in my basement that is the favorite place for my two cats to sleep. The couch had so much hair on it that the couch looked grey instead of purple. I spent 5 minutes with the pet hair eraser and the couch was literally hair free. The rubber attachment on the front works way better than motorized brushes that quickly clog with hair.

The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is a little loud, but I guess with power comes a little extra noise. I love this little vac, why pay all that money for a Dyson when this little guy works great!

Edit: The one and only thing I don’t like about the vac is the way the air coming out of the unit sometimes blows the hair into the air if you’re not careful how you position the machine while you use it. Although considering how much air this little baby moves and the small size of the unit I’m not sure what could be done to avoid this.

Having had this unit now for just over two years I still say its an amazing machine and I use it quite often. Its still going strong, no problems.

My 3 year old dirtdevil Vacuum cleaner gave up and I headed to the research room on Amazon to consider a replacement. After extensive research I zeroed in on this and Hoover 5507-900. Hoover was more expensive and did not have the tools and upholstery available on this Vacuum. I still had my doubts on Bissell hence I headed to Target to check the Vacuum myself. I was impressed with what I saw and I ordered this on Amazon.

Out of the box this Vacuum was very easy to assemble and quite user friendly. The motor was very powerful and it cleaned the dirt from the carpet with ease. It also had adjustable knob for power variation and had one for bare-floor surfaces. The dirt container was very easy to replace and the extra dusting brush with extension wand made hard to reach places very easy to clean. Whats more this vacuum worked like charm on my Vacuum storage bags. It removed the air out of the bag in 30 seconds flat.

I would definitely recommend this Vacuum cleaner who doesn’t want to waste money on Hoover or even worst Dyson and still wants to keep clean.

I am a veterinary technician at a small animal clinic. When our central vac system malfunctioned our office manager picked up this machine to use until repairs could be made. I was completely amazed by this light-weight, easy to maneuver vac. Hair, toenail clippings, dirt all gone! We’ve tried other stick vacs at the clinic and they usually just push the hair and nails around the floor, or they clog up in seconds. This vac is so impressive that I ran out and bought one for my 6 cat, 3 dog, 1 baby house.

This vac has a ridiculously large amount of suction for it’s size. The suction power, together with the odd looking but highly effective v-shape front edge, pulls the hair and dirt into the vac rather than pushing it around. It’s hard to overstate the “Wow!” factor involved as it cleans right up to the baseboards, under the cupboard edges, pulls hair from corners and around chair legs. (I’d been using the edging tool on my large upright vac to do the same things–heavy, took more time, and didn’t clean as well!) All that in a light-weight vac that can be picked up one handed without a thought. I’ve been zipping this around at home on our vinyl and laminate floors while carrying my infant daughter in her baby sling. Emptying the vac is simple and doesn’t make a mess. Yet another great feature is the absence of bristles. Everyone who deals with pet hair quickly learns that bristles are just spots for the hair to collect and drag around the house rather than going into the vac. Someone at Bissell was doing their homework.

The only downside to this vac is the noise. It is loud. Very loud. But, given the suction power all that noise produces, I’m more than willing to overlook it!

I purchased this vacuum cleaner a few weeks ago to replace an Eureka upright I had been using for 3 years. For me, the Eureka was nothing short of aggravating to use most of the time. I have been very happy with my new purchase!
Out of the box, the machine was easily assembled. Assembly required a phillips head screwdriver and 3 screws to secure the handle to the body. The hose and cord wrap attachments snapped into place. In action, I noted that the machine is easy to maneuver over my carpeted floors, and the variable adjustment knob used to adjust the brush height was easy to use and made pushing the machine around easier. I also noticed that the noise level was below the Eureka, also a 12 amp machine.
I was surprised at the debri the machine pulled up out of the carpet.Watching the detritus circulate in the bin with the cyclonic action was satisfying to watch as I moved the vacuum over my floors. Unlike most uprights I have had, the attachments on the Bissell are effective and easy to use. I was able to clean a flight of 12 stair steps using the turbo brush without having to wrangle the machine up the steps. When using attachments on past uprights, it always seemed that the hose would retract when the attachments were in use, tugging at the machine and tipping it or requiring me to wrestle with it while trying to complete my task. I also enjoyed the ease of using the brushes for dusting my lampshades and furniture. The turbo brush picks up my Pug’s hair from the upholstered furniture without any problems. I was also able to vacuum behind my washer and dryer using the wand extension-something I haven’t been able to do easily before now.
The collection cup empties easily using a spring-loaded lid located at the bottom of the collection canister. I find that I do not need to touch or dig out the debri as I did with other machines. I like not having to manually deal with the stuff! The canister also separates so that the cyclone device can be knocked free of debri or even cleaned with soap and water-something that Bissell recommends doing depending on how the machine is used. This will help keep the cyclonic chambers working efficiently. Just make sure the device is very dry before using the machine again! I anticipate doing this on a monthly basis, given that my home is occupied by myself, my spouse and a Pug! Right now, though, when I just tap the tube on a hard surface, I find that the junk in there easily falls out into the disposal bag, clearing it for the next use.
Overall, I am happy with the maneuverability, suction, ease of use and maintenance of this machine. This past week, I used it with my new Bissell Pro-Heat 2x 9500 to deep clean my carpets, and the duo did an excellent job without the usual obstinacy I have experienced with past machines.
