  • Dyson DC24 Drawing Upright Vacuum Cleaner Featured & Review

Posted on May 19th, 2011 VacMan No comments

    Product Information

DC24 Drawing rides on a ball for greater manoeuvrability and at 5.4kg it’s one of Dyson’s lightest upright cleaners. It has patented Root Cyclone™ technology, so it doesn’t lose suction. And like every Dyson vacuum cleaner there are no bags or replacement filters to buy, so no extra costs.
Shorter and more lightweight than a normal Dyson upright, the DC24 Drawing is no ordinary cleaner. Featuring its patented The Ball™, the DC24 lets you steer your Dyson around the room far more smoothly. A small twist of the wrist turns the head around furniture and into awkward gaps, so cleaning is less of an effort. And reassuringly, you’ll still pick up as much as with a full-size upright Dyson vacuum.

This limited edition Drawing vacuum has been engineered to celebrate the tenacious spirit of Dyson’s engineering heroes. The distinctive design of the DC24 Drawing vacuum shows the lengths Dyson engineers go to in the testing and development process. It emphasises the importance of Dyson’s rigorous testing, how engineers make mistakes and learn from them.

  • How to Clean a Vacuum Cleaner HEPA Filter Instead of Replacing it

Posted on May 10th, 2011 VacMan No comments

HEPA filters are wonderful things for people who have allergies. While there are many bagged vacuum cleaners that claim they can reduce allergens, they do not compare to the ability of a HEPA filter in a bagless vacuum. Many people do not know that they can save money by cleaning their HEPA filters at least two or three times before they have to be replaced.

  • Unplug your vacuum and remove the dust cup. There are some brands that require you to unhook a latch, while others simply pull out.

  • 2

Unlock the lid containing the HEPA filter. Most models have a twist lock you simply turn counterclockwise to unlock.

  • 3

Pull out the HEPA filter insert. Some brands have hard casings while others have foam.

  • 4

Fill the bucket with lukewarm water and dish liquid.

  • 5

Put the whole filter into the bucket of soapy water. Allow it to soak for 5 to 10 minutes to loosen any hard build up.

  • 6

Clean the filter while wearing the rubber gloves. Gently work your fingers into the grooves of the filter while intermittently sloshing the filter up and down in the water.

  • 7

Rinse the HEPA filter thoroughly under the running faucet.

  • 8

Fold your towel into fourths and set it on the counter or table. Place the wet HEPA filter on the towel and allow it to air dry completely.

  • 9

Replace the dry filter into the dust cup and lock it back into place. Replace the dust cup into its proper position in the vacuum cleaner.

  • The History of the Dyson DC18

Posted on December 15th, 2010 VacMan No comments

James Dyson, the inventor of the Dyson vacuum, was born in Cromer, Norfolk England on May 2, 1947. He was one of three children born to Alec and Mary Dyson. James grew up attending school and excelling in art and track. He attended college at The Royal College of Art where he studied furniture and interior design then moved on to engineering. James married Deirdre Hindmarsh in 1968 and the couple now have three children, Emily, Jacob, and Sam. The Dyson’s reside in Gloucestershire, England where they have a 15 million dollar home.

While vacuuming his home in 1978, James noticed his vacuum cleaner kept getting clogged a losing suction power. He immediately set to work to fix the problem. With over 5,000 prototypes and five years later, the first bag less cyclonic vacuum was born. Dyson spent many years trying to get his newest invention picked up by major manufacturing companies but every one of them turned him down. At the time, no on was interested in new technology so James Dyson started his own manufacturing company. In June of 1993 he opened shop and was almost immediately selling more than the companies that had rejected him.

Today, Dyson is one of the most popular brands in the United Kingdom. Dyson started selling his products in the United States in 2000. He obtained many patents and licenses that prohibit any other company from creating a vacuum with cyclonic capabilities and a rotating ball for easy maneuvering. James Dyson is known for taking an everyday product and making it better, faster, more manageable, and more quiet to accommodate all people. He has been quoted saying “Everything in my home bothers me.” Dyson has invented many products such as the ball barrow, a wheelbarrow that is more simple to push and a contra rotators washing machine that washes clothes in half the time and is said to make them even more clean than a regular washing machine. Most of Dyson’s inventions are vacuum cleaners. Read the rest of this entry »
