Neato XV-11 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner Video & Review
Posted on June 25th, 2011 No comments
We have been waiting since December to get our hands on Neato XV-11 robot vacuum. In preparation, we refused to steadfastedly, a single flake of dust, which is something like a cleaning strike cuts until the thing finally to sweep at retail. Of course they would only issue three months, and we have certainly gone so long without vacuum advance. The additional six months late, but we ask our determination, as Engadget HQ less and less habitable. Finally, we have been able to unlock the Smarty Pants VAC our dirty floors, and all that we can say is that it was worth the wait.
Hardware
The XV-11 is about the same size as a Roomba with a square front is dominated by a touch-sensitive bumper. When Roomba’s bumper a lot, but here is something like a final, not a property that is often used with a laser scanner to a command module. Yes, a laser on the top, is used to scan the area and has the internal smarts, the robot can even determine the layout of your house and land by the most efficient way. But more on that later.
Also on the top is easy to clean container to jump, not its contents dumped on the floor when removed. It is clear, so you can collect every small change for the emptying and supported through a paper filter that is easy to replace count. The XV-11 comes with a charger, which is just two tracks. Plug into the outlet, laid them on the floor, then as your new little boy, and it is charging. Once charged, you can use the XV-11 on-board LCD screen cleaning schedule, whenever you want. Or simply press the large orange button on the street with his belongings.
The only other big thing in the box is a large coil magnetic strip. Put it down, and Neato zal flat refusal to cross – but it’s up to you to figure out how the strips remain in place and how you get your puppy / kitten / nephews to keep on chewing. The XV-11 is smart enough not to fall down the stairs and has a great work to avoid on the street, so you would not need to use it at all, but we found ourselves rather Virtual Walls Roomba – despite its cumbersome dependence the batteries.
When first announced, the XV-11 will be “smart cards in the area, the most effective way to select the room is cleaned to avoid most obstacles, other robots can only detect effects.” There was a lot of optimism PR for a stupid robot who speak around the floor just below the ping-pong competition. But it’s the truth. Turn on the XV-11 and the ridges from the charger, the implementation of a comprehensive 360-degree scan for the detection of dust bunnies and Klingon fans at the maximum.
And we think up After recharging our ups we were more than just a few things go through for the first time, higher and higher (but still much quieter than the average standing) amused. We thought it was just a stone’s throw from the input hover mode. Unfortunately, it remains firmly on the ground, as an impressive performance on extensive cleaning. After this initial scanning robot places the most efficient way and go for it, on the edge of space to keep the front lines back and forth, as you can, if you mow the lawn. Once during his travels to find another room will remember and come back later. And when it runs out, switch back to their homes, top-up and pick up where he left off.
We were impressed with how can XV-11. Running at about 1,500 square feet of living space in the discovered value, each furniture piece that ran on the edge and then covered the middle. When traveling through the corridor would run directly out through open doors and out of them when you’re done. It does not have a single room, and when it was covered every square inch is the immediate closure of the vacuum cleaner back and took a direct path straight to its charging station – swing by a stray dog in the process to get around. That means not going home twice, caught between a row of chairs, and half succeeds again, the door in a room
This is a big change, what we have come from our Roomba, a 560-model, affectionately called “Geeves” to serve the faithful to us for many years to be expected. Unfortunately, after attending the XV-11 is cold, clinical precision, we can not help but pity poor Geeves and his casual approach to coverage. We enjoy the beautiful pattern, how it works, but to show by comparing the way he chooses, too much chaos, too little theory. You can compare yourself to in the video above, with a small room, both clean. The XV-11 is methodologically everything in about five minutes concerns, including its vacuum and back to the exact spot where it started. Geeves is already knocking on it for more than 16 minutes before you are bored and sitting in a corner. And note that Geeves was bang into walls and pins on the telescope in the corner. The XV-11 went around them.
In the actual cleaning vacuum on XV-11 is slightly better, but, but do not give a deep carpets as upright. Neither is without Roomba little Spinny sweeper brush, apparently because the court “offered fit into the corners, but we felt that there was something dirty was no hiding on the wall. A sweeper would hook. That means better, despite cleaning up after two dogs as throw, we have never once had the XV-11 towers cleanly collect during our test week. We have just emptied (fully in the rule) buckets each time. In the meantime, these days bad ol Geeves’ need for a complete dismantling almost every day.
We were not sure what to expect from the XV-11, but that our expectations after years of using Roomba was smashed to pieces. It was hard not to wonder if this thing look around the room and seemed to consider his course for a moment before they go to your world (or at least your floor), a better place. It’s the kind of robot vacuum that we had hoped for, as we saw first a Roomba do its thing, and during the XV-11 is the crème de la crème, it is not really much more expensive.
Yes, that’s $ 400 a lot for a small vacuum but it can be with top-tier compared Roomba and not completely out of the stadium compared to something like a Dyson. No, this is the XV-11 is not the eternal suckling litter from the stack, if Dyson wants, but neither Dyson will do the floor and play a fun song when it arrives. What we find out that the premium is worth here.

Neato Robotics Robot Vacuum Features & Video

Neato Robotics have introduced their XV11 robot vacuum cleaner, a device that can potentially be a serious contender to the Roomba. The XV11 is the first automated vacuum to utilize SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) and laser technology to accurately lay out a room and the location of “obstacles” prior to beginning the cleaning process.
Unlike Roomba which moves around in circular patterns to clean a room, XV11 uses a more systematic approach of going back and forth across the floor until the room is cleaned. In the event that the robotic device runs out of battery power prior to finishing a room, it will head back to its charging station to recharge, after which it will finish the task at hand.
