The History of the Dyson DC18
Posted on December 15th, 2010 No comments
James Dyson, the inventor of the Dyson vacuum, was born in Cromer, Norfolk England on May 2, 1947. He was one of three children born to Alec and Mary Dyson. James grew up attending school and excelling in art and track. He attended college at The Royal College of Art where he studied furniture and interior design then moved on to engineering. James married Deirdre Hindmarsh in 1968 and the couple now have three children, Emily, Jacob, and Sam. The Dyson’s reside in Gloucestershire, England where they have a 15 million dollar home. While vacuuming his home in 1978, James noticed his vacuum cleaner kept getting clogged a losing suction power. He immediately set to work to fix the problem. With over 5,000 prototypes and five years later, the first bag less cyclonic vacuum was born. Dyson spent many years trying to get his newest invention picked up by major manufacturing companies but every one of them turned him down. At the time, no on was interested in new technology so James Dyson started his own manufacturing company. In June of 1993 he opened shop and was almost immediately selling more than the companies that had rejected him.
Today, Dyson is one of the most popular brands in the United Kingdom. Dyson started selling his products in the United States in 2000. He obtained many patents and licenses that prohibit any other company from creating a vacuum with cyclonic capabilities and a rotating ball for easy maneuvering. James Dyson is known for taking an everyday product and making it better, faster, more manageable, and more quiet to accommodate all people. He has been quoted saying “Everything in my home bothers me.” Dyson has invented many products such as the ball barrow, a wheelbarrow that is more simple to push and a contra rotators washing machine that washes clothes in half the time and is said to make them even more clean than a regular washing machine. Most of Dyson’s inventions are vacuum cleaners. Read the rest of this entry »
